Garbine Muguruza beats Dayana Yastremska in Dubai

Former world number one Garbine Muguruza moved into the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Championships with a three-set victory over Dayana Yastremska.
Muguruza battled back from a set down to beat the 18-year-old Ukrainian 4-6 6-3 6-3, eight service breaks helping to secure her first win over her opponent at the third attempt.
The two-time grand slam champion told wtatour.com: “I think she is one of the hardest hitters on the tour right now, but I think I played better (this time) and that’s the key.
“It’s not easy when you lose the first set and I was disappointed but I managed to forget about it. I’m happy with the win and I think all these matches are going to count at the end of the year.”
Daria Kasatkina was the other seed to progress on the opening day as she repelled the brave challenge of Polish qualifier Magdalena Frech to win 6-3 3-6 6-4 in two hours and 15 minutes.
Anastasija Sevastova was the only seed to fall on the opening day as the Latvian, seeded 10, went down 6-4 6-2 to Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei.
Eugenie Bouchard also booked her place in the second round with a 6-3 6-4 win over world number 60 Vera Lapko of Belarus, but Sara Errani, handed a wild card for the event, fell 4-6 6-4 6-2 to Serbian qualifier Ivana Jorovic.
