Djokovic beats Murray at Boodles
World number one Novak Djokovic beat Andy Murray 6-4 6-4 at the Boodles exhibition tournament in Buckinghamshire to leave the British number one without a win in any of his grass-court matches this season.
In a match that was delayed for several hours due to the heavy rain that hit England on Thursday, the Serb broke Murray to love in the opening game of a match neither player appeared to treat as more than a training exercise.
As both men made jokes and trick-shots, Djokovic held on comfortably to take the first set, although they traded breaks in the second before the number one seed at Wimbledon claimed victory with a final-game love break.
Murray had made little secret of his intent to use this event at Stoke Park and last week’s Queen’s tournament as warm-ups for Wimbledon, although he has managed to lose to lower-ranked opposition – Janko Tipsarevic and Nicolas Mahut – in his other two grass matches since the French Open.
Wimbledon – where Murray is seeded fourth – starts next week.
