Jimmy White's hopes of qualifying for the Wuxi Classic were dashed by a heavy defeat to Aditya Mehta at the World Snooker Academy.

The former world number two crashed to a 5-1 defeat to Indian Mehta, who is ranked 80 in the world, in the third qualification round in Sheffield.

Mehta will now face Jamie Cope for a place in the tournament proper in China, which takes place at the end of June.

The fourth and final round plays out on Friday, with the 16 winners booking their places at the first ranking event of the season.

Joining White on the scrapheap after Thursday's play were fellow veterans Steve Davis, who lost 5-3 to Kurt Maflin, and Tony Drago, a 5-1 loser against Jack Lisowski.

Youngster Luca Brecel's run was ended by Jamie Burnett while Liang Wenbo and Alan McManus were also ousted from the running.
