The new Premier League Snooker season kicked off with a bang at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness, with Judd Trump trouncing Stephen Lee 5-1.

World number two Trump was in imperious form, compiling breaks of 121, 113, 96, 63 and 57 on his way to victory in his opening Group B encounter.

PTC Grand Final champion Lee had no answer to Trump and when he did find some form - in the final frame - it was too little too late.

"Stephen missed a few tonight and that gave me lots of chances. I played alright and felt very comfortable out there," said Trump.

"It’s all about the money,” joked Trump, who won £2,000 for his two century breaks.

"When you’re on 60 or 70 you start to think about it as £1,000 is a lot of money. After the third frame I could relax as I was not really under any pressure. Everyone here loved it tonight!"

Earlier, Ding Junhui had registered the first win of the new season, beating Shaun Murphy 4-2 in Group A.

“I’m really pleased with such a great start to the league,” said Ding.

“With only four matches it’s important to get off to a good start and when I reached three frames first I could relax a little.

“Shaun played well throughout so I’m really delighted with the win."
