Stevens crashes out against Chinese qualifier
Matthew Stevens was knocked out in the opening round of the Wuxi Classic, losing 5-4 to Chinese qualifier Yu De Lu in Wuxi, near Shanghai.
The Welshman had looked in trouble after falling 4-2 behind after losing an epic, half-hour sixth frame, but hit back with breaks of 96 and 72 to square things up.
But the Chinese player proved too gritty in the decider, grinding through the scrappy frame to clinch victory against the world number 13 and set up a quarter-final against Ali Carter.
Peter Ebdon also made it through the first round, starting and finishing the match with two century breaks as he beat China's Rouzi Maimaiti 5-3. Ebdon will face Shaun Murphy in the quarter-finals.
In the afternoon session, Stephen Maguire beat Liang Wenbo 5-2, with Grame Dott downing Cao Yupeng by the same scoreline to set up an all-Scottish quarter final.
