British shooter Elena Allen was left devastated after failing to qualify for the London 2012 women’s skeet final.

The former world record holder’s Olympic dreams ended after she finished a disappointing 14th from a field of 17 with a score of 60 out of 75 at the Royal Artillery Barracks.

The 40-year-old former European silver medallist also finished 14th in Beijing 2008 and put her exit down to just having a bad day, but refused to blame the unfamiliar experience of a watching, cheering crowd.

“It's just devastating. Nothing seemed to go right today," said the Moscow-born shooter.

"We don't normally have crowds and we certainly don't have people clapping (at shooting events).

"I was ready for it. I was just working very hard at not letting it affect me, which is the wrong approach.

“Then it just goes from bad to worse. This is a mental game."

In a disappointing start to the day for British shooters, Georgina Geike failed to qualify for the women’s 10 metre air pistol final as she finished 47th from 49 competitors.
