Johannes Rydzek pips Eric Frenzel to cut gap
Johannes Rydzek got the better of Eric Frenzel in Seefeld to close the gap on his compatriot in the overall Nordic combined World Cup standings.
While Rydzek sat fifth after the ski-jump portion of the event in Austria, World Cup leader and fellow German Frenzel was two spots further ahead.
But Rydzek was adjudged to have crossed the line ahead of Frenzel following a photo finish as both were given a time of 12:00.2 minutes.
And that decision could prove important as Frenzel now leads the overall World Cup standings by just four points with Rydzek breathing down his neck.
While the two Germans were battling it out for victory, Italian Samuel Costa came home third for just the second World Cup podium finish of his career – the only other one coming in December 2013.
