Controlled explosion at Old Trafford after Man Utd v Bournemouth abandoned

Manchester United’s match against Bournemouth on the final day of the Premier League season has been abandoned.

Authorities said there had been an incident inside the stadium which was being dealt with. It was then confirmed that a "suspect package" had been found.

A controlled explosion was carried out at around 4.30pm.

Multiple reports claim a mobile phone was discovered attached to a gas pipe in the stadium.

Fans occupying the Stretford End and the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand were initially ordered to leave the ground before the match was completely abandoned.

United said the game had been called off "on police advice".

United had to win on the final day as well as hope Manchester City lost away at Swansea City to make the top four.

City's game went ahead as planned.

The Premier League says it will try and replay the game "as soon as practically possible."
