Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United
Manchester United have lost two Premier League matches in a row for only the second time in the last six years. Liverpool were also involved last time (March 2009) winning 4-1 at Old Trafford before United also lost to Fulham in the subsequent Premier League match. United have lost three of their last five in the league. The last time they lost three times within any sequence of five successive Premier League matches was May-Aug 2004.
Dirk Kuyt completed a hat-trick in the match, his first in the Premier League and the first for Liverpool against Manchester United in the league since Peter Beardsley netted three against them in a 4-0 win in September 1990, the last match between the two at Anfield with Dalglish as Liverpool manager. David Bentley is the only previous player to score a hat-trick in a Premier League match against United.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Wolves scored three times in successive Premier League matches for the first time ever. They had also never scored in successive Premier League home matches before.
Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland
Arsenal failed to score for the fifth time this season – three of these have come at the Emirates.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce remains without a win in all seven Premier League visits to Arsenal as a manager (5 defeats). He has still not seen his club score in all seven visits – a total of 10-and-a-half hours of football without a goal at either Highbury or The Emirates.
Manchester City 1-0 Wigan Athletic
Joe Hart kept his 13th Premier League clean sheet of the season – more than any other goalkeeper – and the most by an Englishman in a single season in three years since David James kept 16 for Portsmouth in 2007-08.
Wigan have not won in all six Premier League away matches against fellow North-West clubs this season. In total, they have not won in their last 16 Premier League away matches against these clubs (13 defeats) since a 1-0 victory at Bolton in December 2008.
Bolton Wanderers 3-2 Aston Villa
Gary Gary Cahill has scored his first ever Premier League brace. He has now netted three goals in the club’s last two Premier League matches at the Reebok Stadium. These were also his first ever goals against his former club.
Bent scored the opening goal in a Premier League match for the 18th time over the last two Premier League seasons. No other player has netted more than 15 opening goals during this period.
Newcastle United 1-2 Everton
Everton picked up their first Premier League victory at St James Park in over 10 years. It was also David Moyes’ first ever win at the stadium and his 50th ever away win as Everton manager.
Phil Jagielka scored his second Premier League goal for Everton and his first in three years since netting in Everton’s in February 2008. He has now scored as many career Premier League goals (six) as he has scored own goals in the division.
Fulham 3-2 Blackburn Rovers
Fulham manager Mark Hughes remains unbeaten in all five Premier League matches against Blackburn since he left the club.
Blackburn remain without a win in all eight Premier League visits to London this season.
West Ham United 3-0 Stoke City
West Ham have scored three goals in each of their last three Premier League matches. The last time they netted at least three times in more than two successive top flight matches was almost 30 years ago (Sep-Oct 1982).
Stoke conceded three goals in a Premier League match for the first time this season. They last conceded that many in their 4-0 defeat at Manchester United on the final day of last season.
Birmingham City 1-3 West Bromwich Albion
Birmingham conceded three goals in a Premier League match at St Andrews for only the second time in the last six years. The only previous time since 2005 that they conceded this many came in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on New Year’s Day 2011.
Lee Bowyer was given a yellow card – becoming the first player in Premier League history to pick up 100 bookings.
