That result takes Barcelona four points clear of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and Valverde's men are setting the early pace. This was an exceptional derby performances from the Catalans, with Messi the star of the show. Crisis? What crisis?

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Barcelona 5-0 Espanyol
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
- GoalLuis SuárezFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 5 (90 mins - Luis Suarez) Espanyol 0. There's a fifth and it's Suarez who sweeps home the finish, but the real attention grabber from this goal is the assist from Dembele. He played the pass right into the path of Suarez.
- GoalGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 4 (87 mins - Gerard Pique) Espanyol 0. There's the goal to add the gloss to the scoreline for Barcelona! Pique starts his run from outside the box and hammers home a header from the corner kick.
There was a fear after the Super Copa defeats to Real Madrid that Barcelona's season might just crumble into nothingness, but they have made a strong start to the league campaign.
BIG TER STEGEN SAVE! That was a fierce strike from Didac. He just let fly from the edge of the box, but the Barcelona goalkeeper pulls off a strong diving save to keep his sheets clean.
PAULINHO JUST WIDE! That was nearly a goal for the Brazilian on his home debut. Suarez played a wonderful ball to the back post, but on the slide Paulinho couldn't direct his effort on target.
Suarez just couldn't get on the end of it. Alba and the striker play a nice one two inside the area, but the cut back was just a little behind Suarez and Fuego could make the clearance.
It's still early for Valverde, but in terms of their league form, he couldn't have asked for much better. Barcelona have yet to concede a single goal, which is remarkable given how shaky they look at the back.
Iniesta jogged off to a standing ovation from the home fans. There has been speculation off late that this will be his last season at Barcelona, with his contract set to run out next summer.
- OffAndrés IniestaFC Barcelona

Oh come on. This is just getting silly now. This must be the sixth sub in about 10 minutes.

And now ANOTHER CHANGE. I'm going to stop posting these soon.
A lot of changes for both sides have disrupted the flow of the match. Not much has happened over the past 10 minutes besides some subs and some yellow cards. Disjointed.
- Yellow cardAaron MartínRCD Espanyol
There's a yellow card for Aaron. He was shown that for a late challenge on Dembele.
- OffSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
- OnPaulinhoFC Barcelona
Here's another change for Barcelona, with Paulinho coming on for Busquets.
Dembele drives at the opposition defence, but the flag is up when the ball breaks to Semedo. I'm not sure the Frenchman played the pass. It seemed to come off a defender.
- Yellow cardSergi DarderRCD Espanyol
There's a yellow card for Darder. That looked to be a little bit harsh, but it was shown for dissent.
If ever Dembele needed an illustration of the standard he will be expected to live up to at Barcelona, it came in the moments before he was brought off the bench. Sensational from Messi.
- OffVíctor SánchezRCD Espanyol
- OnMarc NavarroRCD Espanyol
Espanyol also made a change, with Navarro coming on, but this game has already been settled.
- OffGerard DeulofeuFC Barcelona
- OnOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
Here he is, Dembele comes on for Deuloefu and the Camo Nou stands to give their new signing an ovation.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 3 (66 mins - Lionel Messi) Espanyol 0. It's all about Messi this evening! Suarez couldn't get the shot awa, cuts it back for Messi, who makes no mistake in finishing past Lopez with a sweeping left foot finish.
The hosts are just knocking the ball around the defence and midfield at the moment, ensuring that Dembele is left waiting on the touchline for as long as possible. Nerves, building.
Dembele is taking his training shirt off on the bench and looks to be set to come on for Barcelona. The young Frenchman must be nervous. This is a big moment for him.
Espanyol have certainly had their chances at the start of the second half. They will likely live to rue missing them because will surely turn the screw over the next half an hour.
THAT LOOKED GOAL BOUND! Baptistao takes the shot from just inside the box, but it takes a massive deflection of Umtiti and flashes just wide of the post. That looked to be heading in.
The home fans inside the Camp Nou want to see Dembele come on. But who does he come on for? Suarez needs game time and Deulofeu is really impression for the hosts.
Is there a way back into this match for Espanyol? They are showing more in the way of attacking intent, but that just means Barcelona will have more space to exploit in behind.
- OffPablo PiattiRCD Espanyol
- OnSergio GarciáRCD Espanyol
Here's the first change of the match, with Piatti coming off for Espanyol. On comes Garcia.
That pass was just a little too strong for Iniesta. The run from the playmaker was excellent, with Messi spotting it, but Lopez came off his line to cut out the ball from the Argentine.
SUAREZ OVER THE BAR! Messi probably should have taken the shot on himself, but cuts it back to his teammate instead. However, Suarez can only scoop a volley over the bar.
DEFLECTED WIDE! Great run by Semedo down the right side, setting up the shot for Messi about 12 yards out, but the Argentine's shot picks up a deflection and flashes wide.
Alba is seen as the weak link in this Barcelona team by a lot of people and he just demonstrated why with that last opportunity. What was he thinking? He lost his bearings.
MISTAKE FROM ALBA! That should have been an Espanyol goal. Alba gets it all wrong, taking a touch to kill the ball for Piatti with Ter Stegen out of his goal, but he sticks it wide.
Barcelona have started the second half on top. They are looking for a third goal to kill off the contest. They have won their first two Liga games 2-0. They want this to be 3-0, at least.
As I was saying...
A lot of people were critical of Barcelona re-signing Deulofeu in the summer, but he has settled in nicely over the last few weeks and has become a valuable member of the squad.
BIG SAVE! That looked certain to be the third Barcelona goal of the evening. Deulofeu did really well to send the cross to the near post, but Lopez makes the save from Suarez's flick.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way at Camp Nou! Barcelona have a 2-0 lead over Espanyol.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Barcelona 2-0 Espanyol. The Catalans head into the break with a comfortable lead and it's largely down to Messi, who has been the difference between the two sides.
OFF THE POST! That could have been a lifeline for Espanyol. Piatti pounces on to a loose ball inside the box, striking on the half volley, but his effort comes back off the post.
Looking beyond Messi, Rakitic has probably been the best player on the pitch for Barcelona in this first half. The Croatian has been in good form to start the new season.
This time it's Messi who takes the freekick, but he gets it wrong as well. He was looking for Umtiti at the back post, but his delivery drifts way too long and the chance is gone for Barca.
All of a sudden Barcelona have just stepped up their play, moving through the gears. Most of that is down to Messi, who has really taken a grip of this game. Fantastic from the Argentine.
WHAT A CHALLENGE! Aaron and Messi were in a foot race to get to a pass played over the top, but the Espanyol youngster does just enough to stick out a leg and make the tackle.
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (35 mins - Lionel Messi) Espanyol 0. There was a lot of luck in this one, but Barcelona and Messi have their second of the night! A ricochet falls nicely for Alba inside the box, who crosses into the path of Messi, who finishes underneath the keeper on the slide.
That wasn't the most convincing punch from Ter Stegen. The cross was slung into the Barcelona box by Sanchez, but the goalkeeper does just enough to get it away from danger.
Here's the offside decision...
WHAT A SAVE! That looked like a certain goal. Rakitic and Messi link up really well to create the shooting chance for the Croatian, but Lopez pulls off a magnificent save to deny him.
Suarez takes another freekick, this time sending it straight into the wall. Why is he taking freekicks when Messi, probably the best freekick taker in the world, is standing next to him?
- Yellow cardDavid LópezRCD Espanyol
There's a handball from Lopez. That was a cheeky one from the Espanyol player.
Indeed, replays show that Messi was at least a couple yards offside when the ball was played over the top by Rakitic. The linesman had his positioning all wrong. He wasn't in line!
- GoalLionel MessiFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (26 mins - Lionel Messi) Espanyol 0. There's the opening goal! Rakitic clips a ball into the box for Messi, who takes the touch, rounds the defender and finishes high into the net. There was a question of offside against that.
Everything is flowing through Iniesta at the moment, with the veteran playmaker operating on the left side of the midfield. He's the one pulling the strings from a deep position.
Barcelona have found their groove again in this match and it's wave after wave of pressure from the hosts. Althoigh Valverde will be worried by how few chances they have forged.
Barcelona aren't happy with that decision from the referee. Iniesta appeared to win the ball cleanly, but the man in middle saw a foul from the playmaker on Piatti. Not sure about that.
- Yellow cardSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
That's an easy decision for the referee to make, with Busquets shown a yellow card for pulling back an opponent.
SUAREZ STRIKE AT GOAL! It's the striker rather than Messi who takes the freekick from 25 yards out. There was plenty power in it, but Lopez was right behind it to make the save.
Semedo has looked rather good for Barcelona. He should solve something of a problem area for the Catalans at right back. He gives them an outlet down the wing. Good signing.
Suarez is making a lot of runs on the shoulder of the last defender, but twice Messi has now ignored them and the former Liverpool striker is telling the Argentine what he thinks.
There's already a sense of frustration starting to creep into the play of Barcelona. They need to keep their cool because if they keep playing like this they will score goals.
Flores said before the game that he wants his Espanyol team to press high on Barcelona, and they have done that at points. But that's a tough game plan to sustain over 90 minutes.
This is the problem for Barcelona. They need someone on the left side to stretch the pitch, and that's what Neymar did so well. So now someone has to be forced out there.
It feels like Espanyol have weathered the worst of the storm. They are still having to defend in the face of Barcelona pressure, but they are no longer pinned inside their own box.
Of course, Barcelona have won all their Liga games so far this season. They will return to the top of the table with another victory tonight following Real Madrid's home draw to Levante.
Eh, that's a clear foul. Suarez tries to claim that the referee has got the decision wrong, as he tends to do, but replays show that the striker barged into Sanchez, leading with an arm.
Club record signing Dembele is on the bench for Barcelona this evening. The young Frenchman has been signed as the replacement for Neymar. No pressure, then. A lot to live up to.
This is relentless pressure from Barcelona at the start of this match. Espanyol are having to dig deep, plugging the gaps at the back. The hosts are well on top at the moment.
Suarez is back in the Barcelona team after a spell on the sidelines through injury. The former Liverpool striker will allow Messi to drop back into his more familiar number 10 position.
A lot of these Barcelona players were involved in internationals over the past two weeks, so will that be a factor this evening? Most of the Espanyol team stayed at home and trained.
That was a sighter for Messi. He drives into the Espanyol box from the left wing, but his shot is a long way wide. I suspect that won't be the last time we see that from the Argentine.
GOOD BARCA START! Strong start by the home side, with Deulofeu getting in between two Espanyol defenders to get on the end of a pass into the box, but the visitors scramble it clear.
So it's the Catalan derby, but this has been something of a one-sided derby in recent years. In fact, Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 16 matches against Espanyol, winning 13 of them.
