Football news - Gareth Bale’s treatment by Real Madrid fans is a ‘disgrace’, says Jonathan Barnett
Gareth Bale’s agent has described the treatment received by some of the Real Madrid supporters as “nothing short of a disgrace”.
The forward was jeered off in Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss against rivals Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Saturday when he was replaced by Marco Asensio.
The Welshman touched the ball just 20 times during his hour on the pitch, failing to record a shot on target as Real suffered a second defeat to Barca in four days.
The jeers for Bale came a week after he refused to celebrate his winner against Levante, and the player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, was highly critical of the Bernabeu crowd.
"This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth's goals for years to come. Frankly they should be ashamed of themselves,” said Barnett, as quoted by BBC and Sky Sports.
" Gareth deserves the greatest of respect. The way the Real fans have treated Gareth is nothing short of a disgrace."
Barnett also insisted Bale is going nowhere in the summer, despite rumours being fuelled by recent admissions from Marcelo and Thibaut Courtois that the 29-year-old does not socialise with the rest of the team, and communicates with his team-mates in gestures due to his lack of Spanish.

"Despite what the Spanish press are reporting, he's happy, he speaks reasonable Spanish and there is no problem between him and the rest of the Real players. The people writing these things know nothing about him,” Barnett added.
"There has not been one single discussion about Gareth leaving Madrid. He isn't going anywhere this summer. Despite what's been reported, he's content, he wants to stay at Real and they want him."
