FT

Full-time: This very one-sided and weird derby is all over. In truth it has been over for quite some time. Hertha were completely dominant and fully deserve such a handsome victory. Union, on this showing, are not yet out of trouble.

90'

There will be two minutes of added time to play.

87'

Hertha playing keep-ball at the moment. If the supporters were present they would be cheering every pass.

84'

Two wins from two then for Bruno Labbadia - but without their raucous fans to back them, Union look like they have gone off the boil.

81'

The free-kick is taken by Dilrosun but the substitute can only watch his effort sail over the crossbar.

Into the last twenty minutes and Union look short of energy and enthusiasm. Without any travelling supporters they look disinterested. Is that an excuse? Probably not.

Game over, you could say. Cunha has been an absolute joy to watch and it was he who started the move before finishing it in style. That's now six goals since his arrival in January.

Space is beginning to open up in midfield, as Hertha take complete control of the game. Whatever head coach Labbadia, who looks set to keep his 100 per cent record, said at half-time has clearly worked.

49'

Block! This is much more like it, as Union almost score immediately down at the opposite end! Andrich plays a clever cut-back from the byline to Bulmer, whose shot is charged down desperately by Boyata.

48'

Offside! A bright start from Hertha as Cunha squeezes a pass between the defence to find Lukebakio, but he's a little too keen to make the forward run and is flagged offside. Gikiewics made another important save, though, even if it wouldn't have counted.

  • 2nd Half
46'

Kick-off! The awful half-time music is replaced by the sounds of the referee's whistle and shouts and groans as the action resumes.

  • End of 1st Half
HT

Half-time: The whistle goes and it's been far from a classic. Let's hope the second half will be better. Much better. It can hardly get any worse, to be honest.

45'

Over! Andrich curls the ball over the wall, it's a lovely effort, and it just brushes the roof of the net with the goalkeeper struggling to get there. That's the closest Union have come.

44'

Hertha fail to the corner convincingly and then Lukebakio goes into the book for a rather high tackle on Reichel, conceding a free-kick in a dangerous area in the process. A shooting position, perhaps, around 30 yards out and slightly to the left.

43'

It's blatantly obvious Union are playing for set-pieces, as they win a corner from a long throw-in. But hey, if it works...

40'

Much of Hertha's play has been too passive but when Cunha looks like he can make something happen when he gets on the ball.

38'

Save! Cunha drifts onto the right flank, cuts inside and accepts Union's offer to take a shot as the defence backs off. He gets plenty of power behind a low effort but not for the first time this evening Gikiewicz gets down to make an excellent save.

37'

We need a goal. It's as simple as that.

36'

Trimmel, Union's go-to man when it comes to set-pieces, tries to float a free-kick onto the head of Andersson but gets too much zip on his cross. Goal-kick.

34'

That was old-school defending. You can see why Union don't concede many.

33'

Can Hertha trouble with a free-kick of their own? Plattenhardt's whipped delivery is teasing but Freidrich leaps like a salmon to clear with a lovely defensive clearance.

31'

Nothing worth noting for now. Andersson is Union's star player but he's being starved of service. Free-kicks and corners look their most likely avenue to an opening goal.

28'

Grujic climbs highest to meet the resulting corner but he can't keep his header down.

27'

Save! Gikiewics is called into action once more. Ibisevic's low cross finds Cunha at the near post. He tries a deft flick but the Hertha goalkeeper is alert to keep the shot out.

24'

Plenty of endeavour on show but in truth the quality has been in short supply.

-
21'

A rather more harmless effort from Hertha now as Grujic blasts one high and wide into the empty stands, much to the frustration of the ball boy who has to go searching.

18'

Big save! Union's defence is carved open for the first time this evening as Lukebakio races through on goal, taking a touch to get the ball out of his feet, but the goalkeeper Gikiewicz is off his line quickly and makes a rather unconventional block, the ball hitting his middle region! That's got to hurt, even if it was effective.

16'

Union have another chance to test the hosts' resolve with another free-kick, as Promel's cross is deflected behind for a corner. It comes to nothing, really, however.

14'

The danger Union pose from set-pieces has been mentioned below and it's no surprise that skipper Trimmel whips in a free-kick from the right. It skims its way through to Bulter who heads the ball onto the roof of the net.

13'

Not that the game has been lacking in intensity, so far, anyway. Hertha, in particular, are playing with a nice tempo and look confident with the ball at their feet. No chances yet, mind.

11'

Worth noting that Hertha had 75,000 supporters here when they hosted the derby in the second-tier some years back. It's just not the same without fans, is it?

  • Michael Parensen

7'

Hertha are zipping the ball around nicely in the opening stages. Full-back Pekarik bursts down the right flank to receive a pass but his arching cross is over the crossbar and out for a goal-kick.

4'

A lovely ball is rolled into the path of Lukebakio, who makes a clever run behind the visitors' defence. He tries to roll it across the face of goal but Union intervene.

2'

The tackles are flying in, no one is holding back, which I suppose is typical of a derby, with or without the supporters. Union pump a free-kick into the box after Promel is fouled by Grujic, but the hosts deal with it comfortably.

KICK-OFF! Hertha get the derby underway.

19:29

A minute's silence is observed for everyone who has lost their life to COVID-19. The players are also wearing black armbands.

19:25

It's almost time for the match. Yes, it's weird. Yes, it's not quite the sport we have all grown to love. But it is still football. So grab a stein and kick your feet up. Kick-off is NEXT!

19:21

Hertha moved above Union in the table last weekend - can they widen the gap on their great rivals to four points and move to within four points of the top six?

19:20

Here's your TEN minute warning!

19:15

Union are quite handy with set-pieces, with captain Christopher Trimmel providing much of the ammunition, assisting seven goals from set pieces this season - a Europe-wide best, and one more than Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

19:10

Union coach Fischer missed the defeat to Bayern after breaking the team quarantine following a family bereavement, but he'll be back in the dugout tonight. "Even though the conditions are unusual, I'm looking forward to Friday," he said. "In the end, it's a derby. It's a special game with lots of emotions. I'm sure I don't need to do much to get the players up for Friday. "For me, the first and main goal is our overall goal - that is staying in the Bundesliga. We want to stay in the league with all our might, a victory against Hertha would help us a lot to reach this goal."

19:05

"We all remember the match in November. It was a black, black day. Now we've got the chance to put it behind us just a bit," said Hertha's general manager Michael Preetz, who sounds a little relieved the stands will be empty this evening.

19:00

Bruno Labbadia - Hertha's fifth coach in a year - started his reign with a 3-0 victory at Hoffenheim last weekend in what was a ruthless performance. The aforementioned Cunha, signed from RB Leipzig in January, ran the show, scoring the third goal.

18:50

A boost for Union as the club's top goalscorer Sebastian Andersson is fit to start after missing out the 2-0 defeat to Bayern last week, replacing Anthony Ujah up top. In a blow to their defence, however, Christopher Lenz hasn't recovered after picking up a knock so Ken Reichel comes in.

18:45

Vedad Ibisevic continues to lead the Hertha's attacking line ahead of Krzysztof Piatek, who has to make do with a place on the bench for the second consecutive week. Watch out for attacking midfielder Brazilian Matheus Cunha, who is a real handful playing just off the striker. Vladimir Darida returns to the fold after serving suspension.

18:40

18:31

For the record, Sebastian Polter scored a late penalty as Union secured victory in their first top-flight Berlin derby in four decades on that day.

18:30

Hello and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE text commentary of the Berlin derby between Hertha and Union at the Olympiastadion in what is the second week of the return of the Bundesliga. There were intense scenes involving fans throwing flares on to the pitch when these sides met back in November - but the return game couldn't be any different with the game being played behind closed doors.
