Greg Van Avermaet sprinted to his first victory of 2019 on stage three of the Volta a Valenciana.

The Olympic champion out-sprinted stage two winner Matteo Trentin after going ahead in the final 100 metres.

Luis Leon Sanchez had taken the lead but finished third after being overtaken by Van Avermaet and Trentin in the final turns.

Race leader Edvald Boasson Hagen maintains the yellow jersey after the 194.3km stage, the longest edition of the event from Quart de Poblet to Chera.

The Norwegian leads the overall standings by five seconds ahead of Spain’s Ion Izaguirre, with Belgian Dylan Teuns three seconds further back.
