World number one Andy Murray is focussing on getting ready for the clay season after withdrawing fro next week's Miami Open due to injury.

Murray had been hoping to bounce back in Miami following a disappointing loss to Canadian Vasek Pospisil – ranked 129th in the world – in the second round of Indian Wells last week.

But the 29-year-old, who won the Miami Open in 2009 and 2013, has withdrawn due to a right elbow injury and has been replaced in the draw by world number 136 Taylor Fritz.

Murray could return to action in next month's Davis Cup quarter-final against France, which is due to begin on 7 April on an indoor clay court in Rouen.

"Sadly, due to a right elbow injury, I won't be playing in Miami," a statement from Murray read.

"Apologies to the fans, it's one of my favourite tournaments. The focus now is getting ready for the clay season."
