Andy Murray was stunned by Albert Ramos-Vinolas as he threw away a one-set lead in Monte Carlo to lose 6-2 2-6 5-7 in the third round.

The world No 1, playing in his first tournament back after an elbow injury, narrowly beat Gilles Muller in the second round and was taken the distance by the world No 24.

He was 4-0 up in the final set but then threw away his advantage, cutting a frustrated figure, as his Spanish opponent battled back to 5-5.

Murray could not find enough to force the win however, and was sent packing in a little over two and a half hours.

Ramos-Vinolas will now face either Marin Cilic, a 6-2 7-6 winner over Tomas Berdych, in the quarter-finals.
