Ivanovic scrapes past Wozniacki to make Monterrey final
In a clash of the former World No. 1s, it was Ana Ivanovic that came out on top with a very tight 7-6(5) 6-4 win over Caroline Wozniacki.
The number two-seeded Ivanovic recovered from a break and 3-1 one down in the opening stanza to pull level and take control of the match - despite Wozniacki’s best effort’s to rattle her opponent – before sealing the set in a tie-break.
However, things didn’t go quite according to plan for Ivanovic in the second set as she appeared to lose her focus. The Serbian raced into a 4-0 lead, but was guilty of a number of errors as she let Wozniacki draw level at four games all.
She soon regained her composure, though, breaking her opponent to serve out the match in style.
"It was a great match tonight," Ivanovic said. "I played really well, especially in the beginning of the second set. We've had very close matches in the past, so it was really a treat to win tonight.
"Caroline was really striking the ball well."
