The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has arranged for live action from the Games to be broadcast by the BBC on giant screens in Birmingham's Victoria Square.

Birmingham will play its part as the organisers of London 2012 strive to include communities from around Great Britain in the London 2012 Games. A series of Olympic football matches in the West Midlands at the City of Coventry Stadium and an official London 2012 Live Site in Birmingham’s Victoria Square mean the region will be part of the Games.

Key events such as Team GB's opening football match against Senegal at Old Trafford on 26th July, the opening ceremony on 27th July, the men’s 100m final on 5th August, the final of the men’s football tournament on 11th August and the closing ceremony on 12th August, should guarantee a vibrant atmosphere at Birmingham’s Live Site, with coverage provided by the BBC on giant screens.

The Live Sites throughout the country are expected to attract up to 500,000 people per day during the summer festivities, with the Paralympics also being catered for from Wednesday 29th August to Sunday 9th September – the big screen action continuing in that period courtesy of Channel 4.

Of course there will be further celebrations in Olympic ‘Live Sites’ in numerous locations across London, including Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park, Victoria Park, Potters Fields, Waltham Forest and Woolwich, and other UK cities – with Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Plymouth amongst the communities also joining the London 2012 party.

How to get there?: Birmingham’s Victoria Square is easy to reach from the National Rail train stations at New Street (literally just around the corner), Snow Hill and Moor Street. Birmingham city centre is also very well served by local bus routes.
