Stingers seal series win over USA
The Australian women's water polo team have won their three-match series over the United States after scoring a comfortable 12-7 victory in the deciding clash at Sutherland Leisure Centre
After being edged out 13-12 in the opening match at Sydney Olympic Park, the Stingers backed up Thursday night's 11-6 victory with another clinical five-goal triumph over the Beijing Olympic silver medallists.
The Stingers shot out to a 7-3 lead at halftime courtesy of a Ashleigh Southern hat-trick, and maintained their dominance in a second stanza that included goals from local Cronulla players Alicia McCormack and Nicola Zagame.
Just six months before the start of the London Olympics, the Stingers have started 2012 in excellent form with eight wins and one win including gold at the Pan Pacific tournament in Melbourne last Saturday.
Australia claimed bronze at the Beijing Olympics but were disappointing in finishing fifth at last year's world championships in Shanghai.
