After helping Britain's 4x400m relay team to bronze at the World University Games last year, the 20-year-old shifted her sights onto earning a place on the senior squad for London 2012.
However Diamond, a 200m sprinter who had never previously tackled double the distance, has had her mind almost changed back following her start to the outdoor season.
She won the 200m BUCS title this month and finished second at the Loughborough International with her personal best of 23.41seconds, set last year, 0.31 shy of the Olympic A standard.
In comparison she has clocked 55.09 seconds in her only 400m race, well outside the London 2012 mark, leaving Diamond with a tough choice to make and one she won't rush in to.
"At the start of the winter my coach and I couldn't work out which event I had a better chance of making the Olympic team in, whether it was the 200m or the 4x400m," said Diamond.
"I think really I was just a bit off in both so we decided to train more like a 300m runner to try and improve my speed endurance, which would help both.
"But because this season is so short before the trials it has been hard to work out which races to do over 400m, and which to do over 200m.
"At the moment it hasn't really worked in either. I don't know what I'll do for the trials now. I'd prefer to do the 200m because it's half the distance.
"But I am still going to see how the next two months go, because I have still only done one 400m race so far so we'll see how it goes."
In terms of numbers, with Britain allowed to enter a six-strong 4x400m relay team compared to a maximum of three individually for the 200m, that would be represent Diamond's best chance.
She has less than a month to come to a decision with the Olympic trials beginning on June 22 but, at present, Diamond can't decipher between the two.
"I do feel like there is a chance for me to get the A standard in the 200m as I am only three tenths off. I ran 23.4 seconds last year from one run so we felt like 23.1 was on the cards," she added.
"But unfortunately 23.1 is a possibility for lots of other girls as well and that's going to be a problem. So I will have to see how it goes and make a decision in a few weeks time before the trials."
