A comfortable win for Spain. They were missing a number of key figures through injury, but they never looked like dropping points here. Macedonia had a couple of great chances in the first half, but they lacked the quality to sustain a threat throughout. Lopetegui will be pleased.

FULL TIME: Spain 4-0 Macedonia
The scoreline perhaps flatters Spain every so slightly, but they have been the better team, that is in no doubt. But they took their chances as Macedonia started to tire late on.
Three minutes of stopage time to be played at the end of the second half.
This could get ugly for Macedonia in the final few minutes. They have competed well throughout, but Spain are really pressing for more goals now. They want to add a sheen to the scoreline.
- OffFerhan HasaniMacedonia
- OnNikola GjorgjevMacedonia
And another change for Macedonia, who are surely just giving players a run out by this stage.
- OnJosé CallejónSpain
Vitolo comes off and gets a standing ovation from the Granada crowd. He is replaced by Callejon.
- GoalAritz AdurizSpain
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Spain 4 (85 mins - Aritz Aduriz) Macedonia 0. That adds a bit of gloss to the scoreline for the hosts! Spain put together a good passing move, with the ball played to Aduriz, who had the simple task of finishing from six yards out.
The scoreline looks a lot better for Spain now. They have been the better team over the course of the match, that isn't in doubt, but they haven't been emphatic in their performance.
- GoalNacho MonrealSpain
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Spain 3 (84 mins - Nacho Monreal) Macedonia 0. That's a great finish from Monreal! The cross is played to the back post by Carvajal and the left back is on hand to meet the delivery on the full volley.
Aduriz has done very little since coming it must be said. The Athletic Bilbao forward came on for Morata, but I can't actually recall him having a touch of the ball in that time.
- OffIlja NestorovskiMacedonia
- OnBesart IbraimiMacedonia
On comes a striker for Macedonia. They are going for it in the final few minutes. Rolling the dice.
The away side are still working hard to keep Spain at bay, but it's all for very little at this late stage. This has been an exercise in damage limitation for quite some time now.
This certainly won't go down as a vintage Spain performance, but they look set to collect another win in their efforts to make it to Russia in two years time. A winning way to end the year.
Some of the Spain players are coming in for rough treatment now. Carvajal refuses an apology for a late tackle made by a Macedonian player. It was a bad one, to be fair.
That was a rough tackle from Pandev on Busquets. It looked like the veteran striker was going to enter the referee's book, but he decides to be lenient with him. One more chance.
It's all gone a bit flat here. Isco has injected some energy and drive, but he looks around and there isn't a great deal of movement from those around him. As I say, flat.
The verve has disappeared from this match. Spain had found some at the start of the second half, but the second goal has put them in a very comfortable position.
I got the feeling we might see Mata in this second half, but that change by Lopetegui suggests that the Manchester United won't be coming on this evening. He opted for Isco instead.
Now it's Isco who comes on for Koke. The Atletico Madrid midfielder had a good game on the whole.
You get the feeling that this Spain team under Lopetegui have yet to find their identity, but it should be factored in that they have had to cope with a number of injuries to key players tonight.
That chance just showed that Macedonia can still pose a threat. They have quality in attack, but they have fallen too deep in this second half. They have had their opportunities.
DE GEA MAKES THE SAVE! The Spain goalkeeper is called into action for the first time this evening. Macedonia spring forward, with Pandev shooting at goal. But De Gea saves.
Spain have hardly been at their best this evening, but they have done enough and have kept Macedonia at arm's length for the most part. Difficult to see them losing it from here.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Spain 2 (63 mins - Vitolo) Macedonia 0. The hosts finally have the second goal. That should be that. Silva gets in behind and crosses to the back post where Vitolo is on hand to squeeze home a header.
- OffStefan SpirovskiMacedonia
- OnLeonard ZutaMacedonia
There's also a change from the away side. Can they possibly find a way back into this match?
Lopetegui has made the decision to stick with one up front rather than go for a front two of both Aduriz and Morata. I suppose it makes sense. This is the system that Spain know so well.
- OffÁlvaro MorataSpain
- OnAritz AdurizSpain
There's the first change of the match for Spain and it's Aduriz who comes on to replace Morata.
Spirovski has gone down and this looks like a serious injury for the Macedonian player. It looks unlikekly that he will be able to continue. The away side will have to make a change.
There's another half chance from Macedonia. They slung a freekick delivery into the Spain penalty area, but the veteran striker could only head his effort well wide of the target.
Lopetegui has got options on the bench. He could bring on Juan Mata or Nolito in an attempt to find an extra dimension in the final third. They might need it for the final 30 minutes.
The home side have looked a bit more cutting in this second half, but the second goal that would really give them some breathing space has evaded them so far. Not the greatest display.
Spain are getting into excellent positions in and around the opposition penalty area, but they are so reluctant to take the shot. They need to gamble a little more often.
There was nobody there to get on the end of Silva's cross. He got to the byline and did well to cut it back, but there was nobody on hand to get a shot away on goal.
SILVA SHOULD HAVE SCORED! Vitolo put that chance on a plate for the Manchester City playmaker, but he didn't make the necessary connection and Macedonia survive.
That just illustrated how fragile Spain are at the back. Bartra is a fringe player normally and he demonstrated why with his defensive play for that last Macedonian opportunity.
RISKY BY BARTRA! The Spain centre back plays a completely blind pass out from the back, with the ball falling to Alioski. De Gea was out of his goal but the Macedonian scuffed his shot.
Spain have started the second half with a renewed energy, but Macedonia are now trying to calm things down by passing the ball around the back. They need to get a grip.
That's three big chances that Morata has had in this game. To be fair to him he did well to get the shot away a few moments ago. His first touch was good, but the ball was slightly under his feet.
BIG CHANCE FOR MORATA! That was an opportunity for Spain to add a second within seconds of the start of the second half. Morata was played through, but his shot was saved.

The second half is under way in Granada! Spain hold a 1-0 lead over Macedonia.

HALF TIME: Spain 1-0 Macedonia. The hosts head into the break with a narrow 1-0 advantage, but they have been well on top. Macedonia have had a couple of chances, though.
Sometimes Spain are guilty of playing just one two many passes. There are occasions when they really should try their luck from outside the box. They need to test the keeper.
Although he might be slightly worried that they haven't shown more of a cutting edge in the final third. Macedonia have a chance as long as the scoreline remains just 1-0.
Obviously Lopetegui would like a second goal to shore up his side's advantage before the half time break, but he'll be pleased with the way his side have played so far tonight.
Most of what Spain have done well this evening has come through Silva. This time he threads a pass through to Monreal, who was in behind, but the flag was up to wave him offside.
There are some tough tackles going in on some of the Spain players. Macedonia have been a yard slower than their opponents, and that's showing at the end of the first half.
It's difficult to see a way back for Macedonia even with the scoreline just 1-0 at the moment. They are sinking deeper and deeper. I can't remember the last time they sprung a counter.
Macedonia are realistically holding on for the half time break now. Spain are well on top and are pressing for a second goal. The away side need to regroup and come up with a new plan.
PENALTY SHOUT! Vitolo goes down inside the area under the challenge of Velkowski, but the referee shakes his head and tells the Spanish attacker to get back to his feet.
While it was most certainly unfortunate for Macedonia to concede in such a way, there was absolutely no communication between the two defenders going for the same ball.
- Own-goalDarko VelkovskiMacedonia
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Spain 1 (34 mins - Darko Velkowski) Macedonia 0. That's an unfortunate way to concede. There was no pressure whatsoever, but two Macedonian defenders get in each other's way and Velkowski heads into his own net.
That's extremely disappointing from the Spain captain for the night. Silva lined up the freekick on the edge of the box, but he gets it all wrong and smashes it over the crossbar.
Vitolo started the match on the left hand side of the Spain formation, but now he's out on the right side. Lopetegui is trying to keep the opposition on their toes.
Carvajal is seeing more and more of the ball down the right wing. He is being used as a wide man. He's doing very little defending, but when does he ever do any real defending?
The atmosphere has been very low key so far. Of course, it's difficult to get up for a home qualifier against Macedonia, but the home side have done a good job of keeping the home crowd quiet.
Macedonia are now having to do a lot of defending. Spain have been camped on the edge of their box for quite some time now. Surely it's only a matter of time before the breakthrough?
That's two very good chances for Morata now. He should have done better with both of them. The Real Madrid striker hasn't quite found his range yet. He'll take the next one, right?
MORATA TAKES AIM! Silva does brilliantly to slot a pass through to the striker, but he scuffed his shot and the Macedonian goalkeeper Aleksovski makes the stop with his legs.
Is this the pressure we've been waiting for from Spain? They have taken a long time to start producing goalscoring opportunities, but that was a great chance to take the lead.
DOUBLE SPANISH CHANCE! First of all Morata's one-on-one shot is saved by the leg of the goalkeeper, then Silva's follow up shot is blocked by the head of a defender. That was heading in!
What's more, Macedonia seem to be holding firm at the back in the face of Spanish pressure when it comes. How long before the home side start to get frustrated with this?
That's two huge chances that Macedonia have had in this game. Spain have undoubtedly been the better of the two sides, but they look vulnerable at the back.
BIG CHANCE FOR PANDEV! The former Inter Milan striker loses his marker from a corner kick and rises to meet the cross with his head, but he flashes his effort just wide.
Of course, Macedonia do have the experience of Pandev up front to draw on. The former Inter Milan player is still something of a talisman for the national team.
Having said that, Spain haven't really used that possession very well. They haven't created much in the way of goalscoring opportunities, barring a few harmless efforts.
Eary statistics show that Spain have enjoyed a masive 72 percent of the possession in the opening 20 minutes of this game. Macedonia are having to do a lot of chasing right now.
You get the feeling that Spain are starting to crank up the pressure. They are well on top right now and are pressing and probing away in search for an opener. Macedonia having to dig deep.
In recent weeks Morata has been favoured as the starting striker for Real Madrid and Lopetegui has decided to go with him for country as well tonight. He's in form at the moment.
SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER! Morata did really well to create the shooting chance for himself with a clever turn, but the Real Madrid striker drags his shot well wide of the target.
Nacho and Bartra are getting their chance at the heart of the Spanish defence tonight due to injuries to both Ramos and Pique. This is an opportunity for them to make an impression.
This is much better from Spain. They are getting down the wings and causing the opposition real problems in the wide areas. That's where they are focussing their efforts.
MONREAL SHOT BLOCKED! Vitolo took his time at the byline to get his head up and play a pass to the edge of the box, but the left back's effort is blocked by a Macedonian defender.
It's taken them a while but Spain seem to have finally taken a grip of this game. They are starting to knock the ball around and are camped on the edge of the opposition box.
Koke got to the byline after a passing move by Spain and played a low cross to the near post. The Macedonian goalkeeper dealt with it, but clashed with one of his own players in the process.
That opportunity for the away side just demonstrates how unsettled Spain are at the back. They are playing with something of a patched up back four. That could be a favour.
CHANCE FOR MACEDONIA! That should have been 1-0 to the away side. Mojsov escaped his marker at the back post, but could only direct his header straight at De Gea.
There are a number of key players missing through injury for Spain. But perhaps the biggest miss will prove to be both Pique and Ramos at the back. They are sidelined.
In fact, Silva is Spain's current top goalscorer out of players still involved in the national team set up. He has become a central figure for the national team under Lopetegui.
David Silva is making his 108th appearance for Spain this evening and he is wearing the captain's armband for the first time. The Manchester City playmaker is Spain's leader for this one.
So this should be rather straightforward for Spain tonight, yes? Macedonia are ranked a lowly 155 in the FIFA rankings. The hosts will be confident of claiming three points from this one.
