90'+4

Another injury worry for Ireland - and Southampton - as Long limps off. It's probably precautionary but his manager isn't taking any chances and replaces the forward for John O'Shea.

90'+2

CROSSBAR! McClean rattles the woodwork with a powerful header from Long's cross and Georgia are able to clear the loose ball.

90'

SEVEN minutes of added time to be played at the end of the second-half. Can Georgia muster up one final opportunity?

88'

The Boys in Green really needed that...

87'

Martin O'Neill won't be entirely satisfied with his team's performance but they've been much better in the second period after a woeful opening 45 minutes.

85'

A cross is sent into the Ireland penalty area and Randolph does well to gather the ball, under pressure from Mchedlidze.

84'

Ireland are extremely comfortable at the moment and Georgia, who produced such a positive first-half performance, have rather lost their shape.

  • Jeff Hendrick

79'

Brady, with a neck brace in place, is carried off to a huge round of applause from the home fans. Glenn Whelan is the replacement.

77'

He collided with Kverkveliya who also has to be bandaged up but the Georgia defender is able to continue. There is much more concern for Brady who is going to be stretchered off.

76'

Brady looks in a great deal of pain. The physios are currently treating him for a head injury.

75'

CHANCE! Long meets a deep cross at the back post, finds Brady across the face of goal who can only nod wide of the goal! There's some concern for the Norwich midfielder, he took a bad knock while challenging for the ball.

71'

Ireland's captain wheels away in celebration after giving his side the lead on 56 minutes.

Republic of Ireland's Seamus Coleman scores their first goal
70'

OH DEAR! Full of confidence after his previous effort, McClean cuts in from the channel and shoots from 30 yards but the ball is sent into row-Z.

68'

Much better from Ireland in the second period and they could well extend their lead further in the remaining 22 minutes.

66'

CLOSE! McClean tries his luck from distance and his ambition is almost rewarded when he sees his 25 yard shot spilled by Loria. Fortunately, for Georgia, the goalkeeper is able to collect on the second attempt.

64'

He may not be scoring goals frequently at the moment but Long is contributing defensively as he wins the ball from a Georgia corner.

62'
61'

Georgia force a corner as Gvilia sees his shot from distance deflected wide. The visitors are not out of this one yet...

59'

GOAL DISALLOWED! The home sides are off their feet in celebration once more but the joy is short-lived as McClean's effort is struck off. The West Brom midfielder ventured into an offside area to meet Walter's cross.

58'
57'

A scrappy goal but Ireland will take it! Martin O'Neill's side have looked like a different team to the side we had to witness in the first-half.

  • Seamus Coleman
GoalSeamus ColemanRepublic of IrelandGOAL! Republic of Ireland 1-0 Georgia - Relief all around the Aviva Stadium as Coleman, on his 40th cap, gives his side the breakthrough! GOAL! Republic of Ireland 1-0 Georgia - Relief all around the Aviva Stadium as Coleman, on his 40th cap, gives his side the breakthrough! The Everton full-back makes a great run from the channel, cuts into the penalty area, the Georgia defence try desperately to challenge him but he ends up bundling the ball over the line after momentarily losing the ball!

53'

It's all rather start-stop at the moment as OKriashvili has to leave the field for treatment, much to the frustration of the home fans who clearly believe the Georgian attacker is playing up.

52'

McCarthy is back onto the pitch, much to the relief of all Ireland and Everton fans. He hasn't been involved enough this evening and Martin O'Neill may well be thinking of replacing the midfielder.

51'

McCarthy is down and holding his arm after landing awkwardly. The Everton midfielder was a surprise inclusion this evening and hasn't played for Everton since August...

50'

McClean does well to dodge a challenge on the channel but his cross is poor and Georgia easily clear at the near post.

49'

STAT! Georgia have scored just once in four previous visits to the Republic, through a first-minute goal from Alexander Iashvili in February 2009.

47'

Brady swings the ball in but the visitors deal with the danger. Ireland have certainly upped the tempo at the beginning of the second period.

46'

Ireland have a great opportunity to take the lead early in the second-half now as Brady wins a free-kick in a wide position. The ball is going to be delivered into a crowded penalty area...

  • 2nd Half
45'

The second-half is underway. Ireland have failed to score in only one match in their last 17 so plenty of reason for optimism for the Boys in Green.

  • End of 1st Half
HT

The referee brings an entertaining first-half to an end. Ireland will be pleased to hear the whistle - they have been second best and are fortunate not to be trailing. A much improved performance is needed in the second period.

45'

Ireland win a corner now as we approach half-time. It's swung in by Brady but, again, Duffy concedes a foul in the penalty area.

43'

Georgia are really putting it to Ireland now. Randolph is forced into another save, this time from Mchedlidze who tests the goalkeeper from range. He forces the ball wide and the visitors have a corner.

42'

SAVE! Randolph is forced into a stop from close range as Qazaishvili beats Coleman for pace following a nice through ball from Ananidze.

41'

McClean, probably Ireland's most lively player in the first-half, delivers a cross into the penalty area but Loria bravely punches clear.

40'

Martin O'Neill looks on rather nervously from the touchline. His side are fortunate not to be losing - and he knows it!

38'

Down at the other end now and Walters wastes an opportunity for Ireland as he hooks the ball over from close range.

37'

Surely a wake up call for the hosts?

36'

WOODWORK, TWICE! Georgia spurn two great opportunities to take the lead! First Mchedlidze meets a cross with a fantastic header but is denied only by the crossbar. The ball breaks to Kashia, whose looping header hits the post!

35'

Georgia's full-back Navalovski finds possession in an advanced position but is unable to deliver a cross. He does force a corner though.

33'

Hendrick finds space in a central position and has plenty of options in attack. He chooses McClean in a wide area but the West Brom midfielder tries to beat his man and ends up conceding possession.

32'

Georgia are plenty with heart, desire and their tireless work ethic is causing Ireland plenty of frustration at the moment.

31'

A nice touch from Long who feeds Brady on the edge of the penalty area but he's dispossessed as he looks to advance.

30'

Ireland win a free-kick which is fired into a penalty crowded area. Duffy is all over the goalkeeper though and the referee blows for a foul. More frustration for Martin O'Neill.

29'

In other news from Group D, Austria have just equalised against Wales through Marko Arnautovic. Joe Allen had previously given Chris Coleman's side the lead.

28'

At least someone is having fun...

27'

In saying that, Georgia haven't given Ireland a moment on the ball. The away side are pushing their opponents high up the pitch and forcing mistakes.

26'

At least that half opportunity got the fans off their seat. Ireland haven't been impressive so far and lack urgency in forward positions.

25'

In-swinger from Brady but the goalkeeper is alert and bravely punches the ball clear.

24'

Long steals the ball back for his side in an advanced wide position and forces a corner. Ireland bring all of their big men up for the set-piece...

23'
22'

Ireland win the ball back from Kakabadze in midfield and suddenly the break is on. The full-back Coleman is released on the channel and he finds Long inside the penalty area. However, the Southampton man is in an offside position.

20'

Georgia are growing in confidence and have settled well into the match after a slow opening five minutes.

19'

Long drops deep to collect possession but with little options in attack, he tries an ambitious pass to Brady but it's played too close to the goalkeeper.

18'

Ireland aren't troubled by the corner as the ball is cleared and everyone has a chance to catch their breath for a moment.

17'

The visitors are enjoying a spell of pressure now as they force a corner. With plenty of tall players amongst the squad, you'd imagine they'll be pretty dangerous from set-pieces...

16'

CHANCE! Georgia should be ahead! After a number of step-overs, Kakabadze delivers a low cross into the penalty area, it falls to Qazaishvili, who turns and shoots just wide of the post.

14'

MCCARTHY WATCH: The Everton midfielder has hardly had a touch in the opening 15 minutes. Definitely lacking match fitness.

13'

Panic in the Georgia penalty area as McClean wins a header at the back post from a deep cross, the goalkeeper flaps at the ball but the defenders eventually clear.

11'

A cross is sent into the visitors' penalty area by McClean but, again, Kverkvelia is there to deal with the danger and sends the ball clear with a header.

10'

Georgia have seen very, very little of the ball thus far. They're quite happy to sit back and allow Ireland to throw men forward. The hosts need to be careful they're not caught out on the counter-attack.

7'

And now Ireland are denied a free-kick in a dangerous area as Ward is brought to the ground on the flank following a direct pass. The referee has got this one right, to be fair, though Ward isn't happy.

6'

The hosts have started brightly and causing Georgia plenty of problems at the start of the match.

4'

PENALTY APPEAL! Long bursts into the penalty area from a wide angle but is caught by Kverkvelia just as he plays a pass across the face of goal. The defender doesn't get the ball and is fortunate not to concede a spot-kick. None of Long's team mates were able to get onto the end of the pass either.

3'

Good build up play from Ireland before a ball over the top finds McClean on the channel. The West Brom midfielder is under pressure from Kverkvelia who wins the ball back for his side and is then fouled.

2'

Shane Long will be desperate for a goal this evening. The Southampton striker has gone 17 games without scoring for either club or country.

KICK-OFF! We're underway at the Aviva Stadium.

19.42
19.40

We are only five minutes from kick-off! Can Martin O'Neill extend his run at the Aviva? He is yet to lose a home competitive match, winning four and drawing two games.

19.35

The Norwich City midfielder starred for his country at the European Championships and should play an influential role this evening as Ireland look to find their first victory in Group D.

19.30

The hosts shouldn't have too much trouble overcoming Georgia this evening. After all, the Republic have won all seven of their previous internationals between the sides, most recently meeting in Euro 2016 qualifiers. Who remembers Robbie Keane's double which secured the points for Ireland during the World Cup Qualifiers in 2009?

FOOTBALL Robbie Keane Republic of Ireland v Georgia Croke Park 2009
19.25

Ireland are hoping to claim their first victory in Group D, having drawn with Serbia 2-2 on the opening day. The Boys in Green have been handed a rather difficult draw - including the likes of Wales and Austria – and the three points this evening is crucial if Martin O’Neill’s side are to have a chance of qualifying for Russia 2018. Undoubtedly, Moldova – who were beaten 1-0 by Austria last time out – are one of the easier sides they’ll come up against.

19.20

Speaking to press earlier this week, Martin O’Neill said he would not take a risk with James McCarthy. However, he clearly feels his star midfielder is ready to play. Whether Ronald Koeman agrees is an entirely different matter. "I've been involved in club management for quite some considerable time, less so as an international manager," O’Neill said. "I have never played anyone who has arrived and not been properly fit, against their will to play.”

19.15
19.10

JAMES MCCARTHY STARTS! The Everton midfielder hasn’t featured for his club since August but he starts this evening, replacing Glenn Whelan who is on the bench. Meanwhile, in defence, Ciaran Clark and Shane Duffy replace John O’Shea and Richard Keogh at centre-back.

Republic of Ireland's James McCarthy
19.06

Subs: Lawlor, Rogers, O'Shea, Keogh, Whelan, O'Kane, Hoolahan, Christie, Meyler, McShane, Hayes, Pearce.

19.05

Ireland: Randolph, Coleman, Duffy, Clark, Ward, McCarthy, Hendrick, Walters, McClean, Brady, Long. Georgia: Loria, Kakabadze, Kverkvelia, Kashia, Navalovski, Gviliia, Daushvili, Okriashvili, Kazaishvili, Ananidze, Mchedlidze.
