Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only)

FT

And there is the full-time whistle – Tottenham have moved up to fourth but boy did they make it hard for themselves in the second-half.

90+4

Southampton huffing and puffing but running out of time.

90+3

Dawson on for Dempsey.

90+2

The referee comes back to book Livermore after playing advantage.

90+1

There will be four extra minutes.

90'

Schneiderlin fires a bullet of a shot from 25 yards out and Sandro gets his HEAD in the way about six yards out. He gets straight back up too – hard as nails stuff.

89'

Some of the fizz has gone out of Southampton's play at just the wrong time.

88'

Tottenham ended up having two corners and managed to kill some clock. Two minutes plus stoppage time left for Spurs.

87'

Not too many Spurs players have come for this corner and Spurs are taking their time.

86'

Fonte deflects away a shot from Sigurdsson for a corner as Spurs enjoy a rare venture forward.

85'

A high ball into the box aim for Mayuka but the Zambian doesn't really attack it.

84'

This really is a classic 'game of two halves' – Spurs can't hang on to the ball.

83'

More balls being lumped into the Spurs box – looks like this will be the patter until the finish.

82'

Decent effort from the edge of the area by Rodriguez but it flashes wide and it looked like Friedel was watching it all the way.

81'

Another chance for Southampton to put a free-kick into the box but this time Lallana plays it straight at Friedel.

79'

Southampton make two changes – Guly and Ben Reeves are on for Davis and Fox.

78'

Sigurdsson on for Defoe – Dempsey will move up front.

77'

Lovely quick passing between Lallana and Schneiderlin from Saints but Lallana tries one more pass when in behind the defence when he probably should have had a shot.

76'

Much more confidence and belief in Southampton's play now.

75'

Vertoghen rightly booked for bringing down Mayuka.

74'

Nice move from Tottenham but Walker then puts a poor cross in straight at Boruc.

73'

Lallana fires a powerful shot but it hits his own man on the way and flies away from danger.

72'

Bale cuts in and gets a shot on target with his right foot but it lacks power and is straight at Boruc.

71'

Defoe just has Yoshida to beat after a poor ball from Fox but the Japanese defender stands-up and makes a great tackle.

70'

Gallas now has to block a Lambert shot from close range after Mayuka's low cross. Breathless.

69'

ANOTHER SOUTHAMPTON CHANCE – Rodriguez scuffs his shot wide of the target after Gallas failed to clear a Lambert cross properly.

68'

The crowd lifted by that goal of course – Spurs were in control but now need to be careful.

66'

GOAL SOUTHAMPTON!!! Rodriguez has got them right back in it. Fonte with a little backheel at the near post from a low corner from Lallana that is saved by Friedel but Rodriguez is then right there to smash it into the net. Game on!

65'

YOSHIDA MISSES A SITTER!!! Fox with a great cross from the free, Freidel comes out and flaps at it and the Japanese defender rushes in and looks set to head it in but it goes off his shoulder and wide.

64'

Booking for Sandro for an aggressive tackle on Davis.

63'

Tottenham make their first change. Huddlestone off and Livermore comes in on. Straight swap.

62'

Michael Dawson warming up but it looks like William Gallas is okay.

61'

Stop in play as Williams Gallas is on the deck injured.

61'

Rodriguez races onto a cross from Lambert and heads it wide of the target. Not that close but encouraging.

60'

Mayuka has given Southampton a spark and they are enjoying a spell of pressure now.

59'

Mayuka nearly gets a shot away on the edge of the area straight away but Sandro slides in to block again.

59'

First change Mayuka comes on for Puncheon.

58'

Good control from Huddlestone 25-yards out but the shot less impressive as he drags it well wide.

57'

Yoshida has to clear away after Vertoghen's low cross looked for Defoe.

55'

Sandro just stands in the way to block a Puncheon pass. The Brazilian has been quietly effective all afternoon.

54'

Another great run from Lennon – he cuts in from the right to a central position then flicks it back out to the right for Walker who fires wide when he really should have done better.

53'

Southampton keep the pressure on for a bit – get a few crosses in – but Fox then fires well over from distance.

52'

Still all looks very comfortable for Spurs but Southampton have a free down the left now – chance to whip in a cross.

50'

A few cheers from the home fans as they string a few passes together…and then they give it away.

48'

Decent volley from Puncheon on the edge of the area goes wide after Vertoghen's defensive header. It goes wide but that is Southampton's FIRST attempt on goal.

47'

Defoe with a shot that might have hit Felix Baumgartner had it happened a couple of weeks ago.

46'

We are back underway – no changes from either side.

HT

A few boos from the home fans but just by a minority – Tottenham lead 2-0 at half-time and that's more than fair. Join us back here for the second-half.

45+1

Superb cross from Clyne as Southampton finally get an attacking going down one of the wings. Gallas makes a wonderful defensive header though.

45'

One extra minute.

44'

Very, very quiet here now – will be interesting to hear the half-time reaction.

42'

Hard to imagine Spurs have played a better 45 minutes than this so far this season – they have been excellent.

41'

Heavy touch from Huddlestone on the edge of the area allows Southampton to turn defence into attack but again they can't do anything with it.

39'

GOAL TOTTENHAM!!!! Superb play from Lennon who runs forward and slips in Defoe – Defoe chips it by the keeper and the ball trickles towards the goal…Fonte runs back and just gets to the ball in time but Dempsey is there to then bundle home from two yards. No more than Spurs deserve.

38'

Spurs burst forward on the counter but Defoe's cross is poor.

38'

Nice little move by the Saints but Huddlestone comes in just as Lambert is about to line-up a shot.

37'

Southampton can't get the ball and the rare times they have they have given it away.

35'

Defoe just offside after a ball from Vertoghen – a couple of times Spurs have been offside now in decent positions.

34'

More groans from the home fans as a ball is misplaced – they are getting outclassed here.

33'

Huddlestone is enjoying some dinking balls over the top – his latest nearly finds Dempsey but the American was offside in any event.

32'

Very good defensive header from Vertoghen clears away a Saints free into the box.

31'

Lennon and Defoe both expect each other to take the ball after a long ball from Caulker. Southampton nick in and clear.

30'

Tottenham looking so much more comfortable on the ball but at 1-0 it is still very much game on.

28'

Sandro again finds Walker in loads of space down the right and again Walker checks it back to Defoe on the edge of the area. Defoe has left his shooting boots at home again though as he blazes over. Spurs well on top now though.

27'

Great sliding tackle by Vertoghen nicks the ball from Puncheon and allows Tottenham the chance to build again.

26'

Well Bale was picked out as the key man before the match and he has certainly been as good as advertised. Causing all sorts of problems.

24'

Bale now gets his head on the corner but it goes well wide.

23'

Wonderful cross from Bale who again gets by Clyne and Fox can only kick it away for a corner.

22'

Hard at times for Southampton to resist the temptation of a long ball up to Lambert.

21'

Southampton stringing a few passes together now but Spurs have a decent shape about them at the back.

20'

Defoe just can't quite control a deflected low cross from Walker – Spurs looking dangerous whenever they go forward.

18'

Spurs fans now in good voice as you might expect while the home fans have quietened down.

17'

Wales manager Chris Coleman in the crowd today and he has just seen his star player score. Coleman in the crowd with rumoured girlfriend Sky Sports News presenter Charlotte Jackson. The boy has done well for himself there.

16'

Long ball into the box almost finds Lambert in a great position.

15'

GOAL TOTTENHAM!!! A superb header from Gareth Bale who comes in from the right to meet Huddlestone's cross and guide a header into the other corner of the net. Muted celebration against his former club but he has celebrated the birth of his daughter with a fine goal.

14'

Interesting stat from Infostrada: Tottenham are one of two teams (alongside West Ham) yet to concede a headed goal in the PL this season, Southampton have scored five, only Manchester United have scored more (6) this season.

13'

Interesting stat from Infostrada: Tottenham are one of two teams (alongside West Ham) yet to concede a headed goal in the PL this season, Southampton have scored five, only Manchester United have scored more (6) this season.

12'

St Mary's very noisy today and it has been a promising start to this match too from both teams.

11'

Huddelstone tries to slip in Defoe but the striker is not really aware of his surroundings while the ball has too much on it in any event.

10'

Tottenham with a free in an attacking position down the right. Huddlestone delivers and Southampton need about three attempts to clear it.

9'

Bale gets past Clyne but he just can't quite get enough whip on the resulting cross.

8'

Bright start from Southampton who are showing the greater urgency in these early stages.

7'

Chants of 'One Nigel Adkins' from the home fans. A local newspaper poll this week showed 78% of Saints fans still think he is the right man for the job.

6'

Poor ball by Huddlestone allows Southampton to break but by the time they played a ball over the top for Lambert he was offside.

5'

Tottenham have lost all five of their previous visits to St Mary's and have never even scored at this ground. The fact that Harry Redknapp was Saints boss at the time of the last meeting though shows it is not really a relevant stat.

4'

Lambert does well to control a ball on the edge of the area but his cross is overcooked. Southampton already targeting Lambert with angled crossfield balls.

3'

TOTTENHAM NEARLY TAKE THE LEAD! Yoshida with a defensive header when he didn't really know where he is…Boruc comes out and can't deal with it and it comes off Lennon and trickles just wide.

2'

Big cheer from the home fans as Clyne slides in on ex-Saint Gareth Bale – could be a key battle that today.

1'

And Southampton have got us underway here.

15:57

The players come out to a sold out crowd….Tottenham wearing their grey and black away shirts.

14:55

Today's referee is Lee Mason – in give matches this season he is yet to show a red card. He has shown 17 yellows though. It is his first Spurs game for three years since he gave three penalties against Tottenham in a game against Sunderland.

14:50

For those who are interested in these type of things – all the Southampton players seem to be wearing the 'Kick It Out' t-shirts in the warm-up.

14:45

Andre Villas-Boas is not worried that Spurs played in Europe this week: "I think we had one of our strongest performances against Aston Villa after a trip to Panathinaikos. This is a shorter trip, certainly we don't have the squad in-depth to give us the options other people might have…(but) that previous example of Aston Villa, it leaves us in a comfortable position and hopefully it won't take its toll."

14:40

Nigel Adkins: "Before we even kicked a ball this season I was favourite for the sack, but you have to meet it head on. I wake up every morning, pull the curtains back and say, 'Morning world, it's good to be alive and I can't wait to get to work today'. Many people would love to have our jobs so we embrace the challenges that come our way and make the most of it."

14:35

Southampton will move out of the bottom three with a win today. Tottenham could move as high as fourth depending on other results.

14:30

Tottenham also conceded four last week to Chelsea. No changes to their defence but Gareth Bale is back from paternity leave. Gylfi Sigurdsson drops to the bench in their only change to their starting XI.

14:25

Southampton have made two changes from the side that was hammered 4-1 by West Ham last weekend. Rickie Lambert returns to the starting line-up to replace Guly, while Danny Fox is in at left-back. Jos Hooiveld drops to the bench with Jose Fonte and Maya Yoshida at the heart of the Saints' defence.
