Well, that was a turn up for the books. Zidane's experimental lineup backfired, with Levante earning themselves a point. That means Real Madrid have now dropped points in back to back games at the Santiago Bernabeu. Something for the champions to consider. They were poor this afternoon.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 1-1 Levante
OUTSIDE OF THE POST! Well, that was almost it. Kroos takes the shot from the edge of the box, but the German midfielder clips the outside of the post and that is probably that.
This will be back to back home draws for Real Madrid. They have enjoyed a strong start to the season, but are Zidane's side looking tired already? Too many changes this afternoon?
Do Real Madrid have anything else to offer in this match? They are now down to 10 men and look to be out of ideas, and Raul has thwarted them every time they have got close to finding the net.
Four minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
- Red cardMarceloReal Madrid
SENT OFF! Marcelo has been shown a red card by the referee. He appeared to kick out after taking a shot.
Time is running out for Real Madrid now. Bale has had the chances to claim all three points for the champions, but will he get another one like the last opportunity? Doubtful.
BALE SHOULD HAVE SCORED! Isco's ball into the penalty area from the byline was exceptional, with Bale rising highest inside the six yard box, but he somehow heads back across goal and wide.
However, at least Isco is starting to take responsibility for this performance. The playmaker is demanding the ball, looking for a way to unpick this Levante defensive line.
Isco simply can't work through so many defenders. Levante have everyone back and Real Madrid aen't giving him the options in front of him. They are missing Ronaldo here.
SHOT FROM ASENSIO! Lovely play from Isco and Bale creates the shooting chance for Asensio, but Raul gets down well to make the diving save. Levante are getting closer to a point.
It should be noted that Levante still look pretty composed. They look comfortable with the way this second half has gone. They are having to defend, but are doing a good job of it.
Of course, it should be remembered that Real Madrid made a habit of scoring late winners last season. It became a hallmark of Zidane's side. Is there another one coming here?
Real Madrid are playing a lot of clipped balls into the penalty area and it's not working for them so far. They don't really have anyone in there other than Bale to make the most of them.
RAUL KEPT HIS EYE ON IT! The ball fell to Carvjal about 20 yards out, with the right back taking the shot on the bounce. It picked up a deflection, but the goalkeeper makes the save.
- OffLucas VázquezReal Madrid
- OnMateo KovacicReal Madrid
Vazquez doesn't look too happy to be taken off. Zidane obviously feels a tactical tweak is needed.
Asensio takes on the chance himself, cutting inside off the right wing and taking the shot with his left foot, but his effort flashes across goal and doesn't really trouble Raul.
I'm pretty sure Carvajal didn't mean that. The Real Madrid full back was trying to sling a cross into the box, but actually forced Raul into making a save at his near post. Dangerous effort.
The home fans inside the Santiago Bernabeu are getting restless. They're whistling the referee, their own players, everyone. There is a real frustration building. Real Madrid are still being held.
- OffIviLevante UD
- OnSamuel GarcíaLevante UD
Another change for Levante. They are edging closer and closer to a big result.
- Yellow cardDani CarvajalReal Madrid
Carvajal makes the rash challenge on Jefferson and the Real Madrid right back is the latest player to enter the book.
KROOS TAKES AIM! Space opened up for the German midfielder about 25 yards out from goal, but Raul had a clear sight all the way and could make the relatively simple save.
There's the first involvement from Isco in this game, playing a pass over the top of Asensio, but the ball was just a little bit strong. He's already have an influence, though.
Isco comes into this game on the back of a sensational display against Italy for Spain. He was incredible. Real Madrid could do with him conjuring up some of that form now.
- OffMarcos LlorenteReal Madrid
- OnIscoReal Madrid
Here he comes. The man of the moment is on for Real Madrid. Over to you, Isco.
OVER THE BAR! Vazquez gets to the byline and stages a cross into the six yard box. Bale rises highest but can't get over it and heads over the bar, on to the roof of the Levante net.
Asensio started the season in exceptional form, but he has been rather quiet this afternoon. Perhaps just a reminder that he is still young and we can't ask too much of him.
Vazquez needed to get more power in that effort. The ball was crossed into the near post by Asensio, but it was a difficult chance for the attacker to take and Raul can make the save.
- OffAlex AlegríaLevante UD
- OnEmmanuel BoatengLevante UD
Boateng comes on for the away side as they look to freshen things up in attack.
This is the second game in a row that Real Madrid have missed Morata. Yes, Chelsea paid a lot of money to sign him in the striker, but wonder if Zidane is regretting letting him leave.
- Yellow cardSergio RamosReal Madrid
That was a little harsh. Ramos is shown a yellow card for attempting an overhead kick in the box.
Zidane has sent Isco and Kovacic to warm up down the touchline. Real Madrid certainly need someone to drive through the centre of midfield and provide a bit more energy there.
Looks like Levante are about to make a change here. They will have their sights set on all three points. They have looked composed from the very first whistle this afternoon.
STRAIGHT AT CASILLA! Alegria takes aim from the edge of the box, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper watches it all the way and makes the save. Easy one for Casilla, that was.
This does have the look of a makeshift Real Madrid side at the moment. While they are dominating the ball, there isn't the usual fluency to their play. They are lacking something.
Bale has made an impact since coming on for Benzema midway through the first half. The Welshman is leading Real Madrid as they attempt to find the goal to put them ahead.
There is a noticeable difference in Real Madrid's play at the start of the second half. They are looking to keep the ball as close to the edge of the opposition penalty box as much as possible.
Zidane will be looking for more intensity and a higher tempo from his team in this second half. Real Madrid were slightly sluggish in the opening 45 minutes, which was reflected in the scoreline.
- Yellow cardAlex AlegríaLevante UD
There's a yellow card shown to Alegria for a clash with Ramos. Looked a little bit harsh.
Where was the Levante defence? The ball was played straight down the middle by Ramos, with both Asensio and Bale completely unmarked, but the ball ran a little long.

- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 1-1 Levante. The two sides are tied at the break and Levante have looked the part. They haven't panicked at any point and are good value for the draw so far.
BIG CHANCE FOR BALE! Ramos plays a long ball over the top for Bale, but Raul comes off his line to make the save from the Real Madrid number 11. That was a big oportunity.
Ivi has been a handful for Real Madrid in this first half. Of course, he scored the opening goal, but he has also carried a threat throughout the opening 45 minutes. Levante playing well.
BALE HEADER WIDE! That was a difficult one for the Welshman. The cross was clipped into the box by Marcelo on the left, but Bale just couldn't direct his header on target. Flashes wide.
Bale is playing as a floating forward. The Welshman is willing to run the channels as the central striker, but he doesn't really play as an orthodox number nine. A different sort of striker.
Vazquez has taken up a wide role on the right side in the last 10 minutes. That is stretching the pitch and opening up space for some of his teammates in the centre of the pitch.
Replays show a tackle on Theo inside the box and it's true that there was a dangling leg for the Real Madrid youngster to fall over. Slightly dramatic, but that could have been a penalty.
It actually looks like Ramos has taken it upon himself to play as a makeshift number nine following the exit of Benzema due to injury. He's been up there for the last few attacks.
This is much better from Real Madrid. They are zipping the passes around the final third and Levante are having a much harder time of keeping tabs of the likes of Asensio and Bale.
- GoalLucas VázquezReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (35 mins - Lucas Vazquez) Levante 1. There's the equaliser! Real Madrid have been knocking on the door for a while and they have the breakthrough. Ramos heads towards goal from a corner and Vazquez was on hand to finish from close range.
There is where the impact of Morata's departure is felt by Real Madrid. They don't have another out and out striker to act as Benzema's deputy. Could that cost them over the season?
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnGareth BaleReal Madrid
There's the change and Bale comes on to replace the injured Benzema.
Well, Benzema is going to come off here. The French striker has disappeared down the tunnel and a difficult afternoon for Real Madrid is going to get even more difficult. Change needed.
BENZEMA INJURY? The Real Madrid striker is over at the touchline and is receiving some sort of treatment. This could be a concern for Zidane. Might he have to make a change?
Levante are doing a really good job of swarming around the Real Madrid attackers whenever they get it. The home side need to start moving the ball through the midfield quicker.
The home fans are starting to get a bit restless inside the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid are struggling to create anything in the final third. They're getting on th back of Benzema.
Benzema looks to be struggling for sharpness, which is unusual given that he is one of the few Real Madrid player who wasn't involved for his national team over the past week.
The onus is on Asensio to create something for Real Madrid. The youngster has been in exceptional form for the champions early on this season. A lot is expected of him already.
- OffIván LópezLevante UD
- OnPedro LópezLevante UD
Levanta are forced into an early change. One Lopez off, one Lopez on.
This is where the depth of the Real Madrid squad will be really tested. They have been presented with something of a challenge - do they have the quality to overcome it?
Real Madrid have upped the tempo and intensity of their play since losing that goal. They had been taking things a little too easy in the opening exchanges. They've been jolted into life.
CHANCE FOR REAL! Theo gets down the outside, bursting to the byline, but his cross is a little too close to the goalkeeper and Fernandez gathers before it can reach Benzema.
I wonder how much of that goal was down to the unfamiliarity of the Real Madrid backline. Casilla didn't look too commanding as the long throw was launched into the penalty box.
- GoalIviLevante UD
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 0 Levante 1 (13 mins - Ivi Lopez). Well, well , well. Terrible defending from Real Madrid! A long throw into the box causes mayhem, with Ivi geting in front of Carvajal and flicking a finish past Casilla. The visitors have the lead!
Levante are growing into this game now. They are growing in confidence and are doing a better job of making the ball stick in the final third, but they have yet to carve out a chance.
Theo is another young player with a lot of potential. He was involved in one of the most controversial transfers of the summer, joining Real Madrid from Atletico Madrid for 30 million Euros.
I know a lot of Real Madrid fans are keen to see Llorente given a run in the first team. He is a holding, central midfielder who is perhaps slightly more polished than Casemiro. Promising.
There's still no Ronaldo for Real Madrid. Of course, the Portuguese forward was shown a red card in the Super Copa game against Barcelona and this is the last game of his suspension.
Zidane is known for his tendency to rotate his squad. It pushed Real Madrid across the line last season. While Barcelona tired towards the end of the campaign, Zidane kept his side fresh.
This has been a slow start to this match. Maybe it's down to the early kick off, but Real Madrid are just feeling their way into the contest, knocking the passes around with ease.
I'm still trying to work out this Real Madrid formation. On the left side they have Theo and Marcelo on the same flank. Is Marcelo playing as more of a left winger this afternoon?
There's no place for Isco in the Real Madrid starting lineup this afternoon. The playmaker has been in sensational form for both club and country over the past few weeks.
If you're wondering why this game is starting so early, Spanish football is making a real effort to appeal to the Asian market. So a 12pm kick off puts this game on at prime time there.
Of course, Real Madrid were held at home to a 2-2 draw before the international break. Valencia set a precedent for how to get at the reigning Spanish and European champions.
So Zidane has rung the changes for this one. There are starts for both Theo and Llorente, with the Real Madrid boss rotating his squad after the international break. Shows their strength.
