Barcelona were said to be chalking off the transfer window to experience after reportedly failing to sign either of their two main targets as the deadline fell.

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho was a priority target for the Catalans after losing star striker Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a record €222 million, though the club were forced to concede defeat after Liverpool refused to budge.

Angel di Maria was thought to be Barca's Plan B, but after PSG demanded more than €20m above their €40m offer the Spaniards cooled off, reportedly citing a "crazy market."

Though the signing of 20-year-old Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a club record fee has gone some way to pleasing fans, the lack of deadline-day signings makes them very much the Arsenal of La Liga, with many wondering what next for the troubled club.
