FULL TIME: Sporting Gijon 2-3 Real Madrid. That could prove to be a massive win for Real Madrid in their efforts to win the league championship for the first time since 2012. Isco was the man of the match and so it's only fitting that he should clinch the late winner for Real Madrid. He surely has to start next week against Bayern Munich!
Just one more minute of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
How many times have Real Madrid scored a late winner under Zidane? It has become their hallmark and they have done it again! What a strike from Isco. He has been so good today.
- GoalIscoReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sporting Gijon 2 Real Madrid 3 (90 mins - Isco). It had to be him! Isco has been exceptional this afternoon and he looks to have scored a late winner, finding the bottom corner of the Sporting Gijon net with a low left footed drive.
- Yellow cardNacho CasesSporting
Cases is shown a yellow card for a handball and the Sporting Gijon can't believe it. He's got his hands on his head.
That was a waste from James. He struck the freekick from 25 yards, but his effort smashed straight into the Sporting Gijon wall. He should have done better from that range.
That was naive defending from Ndi. He wrestled with Kovacic to win the ball 25 yards out and conceded the freekick, giving Real Madrid an opportunity in a dangerous position.
For perhaps the first time in the match Sporting Gijon are starting to sit deep and soak up the pressure being applied by Real Madrid. They're refraining from launching it long.
This is end to end stuff at the moment. Normally a team of Sporting Gijon's stature would be sitting deep at this point of the match, but they know that one point isn't going to be enough for them.
HEADER OVER THE BAR! Mariano got on the end of a corner kick delivery into the penalty area, but the sub striker could only direct his header over the crossbar. He met it well.
Barcelona have a tough game against Real Sociedad later this evening, but Real Madrid will view this as a missed opportunity if they fail to find a winner in the final 10 minutes.
- OffDuje CopSporting
- OnDani NdiSporting
The opening goalscorer Cop has been taken off by Sporting Gijon and replaced by Ndi.
Sporting Gijon kicked off this match five points from safety at the foot of the Liga table, so that explains why they are also attacking at every possible opportunity. They need a win.
So can either of these two teams find a winner? There's just over 10 minutes to play, with Real Madrid starting to crank up the pressure on Sporting Gijon. There's urgency to their play.
Vazquez seems to be in something of a huff on the bench. Is he unhappy with Zidane for taking him off or is he unhappy with himself for not making much of an impression on the game?
This might be the best I have ever seen Isco play for Real Madrid. He has been absolutely sensational. Sporting Gijon haven't been able to handle him at any point of the match.
WHAT A RUN THAT WAS! Isco dribbled past about six different Sporting Gijon players, before crossing into the box. The ball fell to Marcelo, but his shot flashes just past the far post.
- OffLucas VázquezReal Madrid
- OnMarianoReal Madrid
Another change for Real Madrid, with Vazquez coming off to be replaced by Mariano. He'll have 20 minutes to find a winner.
- OffMoi GómezSporting
- OnNacho CasesSporting
Sporting Gijon make their first change of the match, with Cases coming on for Gomez after 70 minutes.
Asensio is now taking it upon himself to drive Real Madrid forward down the wings. The youngster has a lot of responsibility heaped on his shoulders, but he hasn't gone hiding.
Carmona gets to the byline and attempts to get a cross into the Real Madrid penalty area, but he gets his angles wrong and it goes behind. Sporting Gijon are still pressing.
This is still an inredibly open game. Real Madrid aren't really seeking to control the game in the centre of the pitch, instead looking to attack at every possible opportunity.
ANOTHER BIG OFFSIDE CALL! Morata hits the ball with a header, with Asensio bundling hom a finish, but the flag as up against the former and replays show it was the correct call.
JUST WIDE OF THE POST! Real Madrid encouraged Isma to drive at their defence, with the Sporting Gijon player firing off a shot at goal, but his effort flashes past the post.
The Real Madrid players aren't happy with a challenge from Leo on Morata. Both players went into the tackle hard, but the Spanish international striker came off the worse of the two.
It should be mentioned that Danilo has been exceptional for Real Madrid this afternoon. He is often a figure of fun for the Liga leaders, but you can't fault his performance so far.
- GoalÁlvaro MorataReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sporting Gijon 2 Real Madrid 2 (59 mins - Alvaro Morata). Morata has headed home a much needed equaliser for Real Madrid! The cross from Danilo on the right wing was excellent and the striker leapt highest to head home, restoring parity.
That is a slightly strange change from Zidane. Coentrao hadn't played badly by any stretch of the imagination, yet he has been hooked before the hour mark to be replaced by Marcelo.
- OffFábio CoentrãoReal Madrid
- OnMarceloReal Madrid
There's the first change of the match and it's Marcelo who comes on for Coentrao in the left back position.
All of a sudden this is becoming something of a season defining match for Real Madrid. How will they respond over the next 35 minutes? Surely they will get a grip of this contest.
One of the most concerning things for Zidane is that he doesn't have many options on the bench. Modric could be introduced, but not much to change things in the final third.
That was easy enough for Cuellar to deal with. James created the shooting space for himself about 20 yards out, but his effort was straight at the Sporting Gijon goalkeeper.
This is very impressive from Sporting Gijon. They aren't resting on what they have and are in fact pressing for a third goal. They realise Real Madrid will come at them again.
That wasn't supposed to happen. Real Madrid emerged for the second half with renewed urgency, but now they find themselves behind once again. They have work to do.
- GoalMikel VesgaSporting
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sporting Gijon 2 (50 mins - Mikel Vesga) Real Madrid 1. What a strange goal but Sporting Gijon have taken the lead again! Babin knocks a long ball into the area, with Vesga looping a header from about 10 yards over Casilla and into the Real Madrid net.
That was a peculiar decision from the referee. Cuellar quite clearly made the save from Nacho's header, but he didn't seem to spot it and the goal kick was awarded to Sporting Gijon.
HOW DIDN'T THAT GO IN? Nacho as completely unmarked at the back post as the freekick comes into the box, but Cuellar makes a wonderful save to deny the Real Madrid defender.
This will be a big half for Real Madrid. They will want to maintain their lead over Barcelona at the top of the table and so the fringe players will have to step up for the visitors.
The second half is under way! It's 1-1 between Sporting Gijon and Real Madrid in La Liga.
What did you make of the first half? Has Zidane made too many changes to his Real Madrid team for this one? Can Sporting Gijon claim all three points for themselves? Tweet me!
HALF TIME: Sporting Gijon 1-1 Real Madrid. An even half between two teams who have looked to attack at every possible opportunity. A fantastic spectacle for the neutral (or Barcelona fans).
Sporting Gijon will be rather pleased with how they have played in this first half, even if they were only ahead for a couple of minutes. They have gone toe-to-toe with Real Madrid.
GOOD CROSS FROM COENTRAO! The Real Madrid left back took the ball off Asensio and zipped a pass right across the box, but there were no takers in white and the ball pops out the other side.
The pace of this match has been relentless so far. This first half has been very entertaining, although I'm sure Zidane will want his team to show more control after the break.
Casilla comes off his line to make a slapped clearance from a Sporting Gijon freekick. The delivery into the Real Madrid penalty box wasn't bad at all, and so the keeper had to deal with it.
A Sporting Gijon counter attack followed by a Real Madrid counter attack. All of a sudden this match has opened up, with the hosts causing problems of their own.
Sporting Gijon deserve a lot of credit for the amount of work they are putting in in the final third of the pitch. Their work rate has been sensational, pressing high and moving quickly.
Asensio is starting to get himself involved in this game a little bit more. He has the quality to make a real impression, as he did for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich during the week.
Alvarez can have no complaints about that, seeing yellow for dragging back Asensio as he surged forward,
While Vazquez was indeed offside, the ball played by Isco to get the winger in behind the Sporting Gijon backline was quite magnificent. The playmaker is at the top of his game.
REAL MADRID HAVE THE BALL IN THE NET! Morata finishes into the empty after rounding the goalkeeper, but the run from Vazquez was too early and the flag was raised for offside.
Of course, there has been a lot of speculation about Isco's future at Real Madrid. His contract expires in 2018 and reports claim that Barcelona are interested in taking him to the Camp Nou.
Morata probably should have done a little better with that. Vazquez got a cross into the area from the right wing, but the Real Madrid striker couldn't get high enough to guide his header on target.
Everything Real Madrid are doing well is coming through Isco. He has made this game his own, although he could do with some help from James alongside him. He's been very quiet.
CLOSE TO A BOOKING! Nacho trips Cop, with the referee having a word with the Real Madrid defender. Remember, he will miss the Clasico if he sees yellow today. That would leave Real with only one defender.
Indeed, Real Madrid are now dictating possession, with Sporting Gijon camped deep inside their own half, repelling the pressure being applied by the visitors. Can they hold out?
Asensio hasn't seen much of the ball early on in this game. He has been a driving force for Real Madrid on the occasion that Zidane drops his first choice attackers. Great option to have.
It's up to Kovacic to control things for Real Madrid in the centre of the pitch. The Croatian is the anchor in this team with both Kroos and Modric rested by Zidane for this match.
Well, that didn't take long. Real Madrid were behind for just two minutes before Isco equalised in fantastic fashion. Excellent response from the Liga leaders. They're on top now.
- GoalIscoReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sporting Gijon 1 Real Madrid 1 (17 mins - Isco). What a magnificent goal and Real Madrid have restored parity! Isco skips past the tackle of three Sporting Gijon defenders before angling a shot high into the top corner of the net.
Real Madrid came into this game with a three point lead over Barcelona at the top of La Liga, but a defeat here would allow the Catalans to draw level with a win later this evening.
Well, that wasn't in the script. Sporting Gijon have started this match well and now they have a 1-0 lead to show for it. How will Real Madrid respond to going behind? A lot of football is still to play.
- GoalDuje CopSporting
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Sporting Gijon 1 (14 mins - Duje Cop) Real Madrid 0. The home side have taken a shock lead! The ball was looped over the top of the Real Madrid defence and Cop squeezed a volleyed finish underneath Casilla to put Sporting ahead.
Sporting Gijon are holding their own at the moment. They are pressing high up the pitch and making some real progress in the final third. This could get dangerous for Real Madrid.
HEADER OVER THE BAR! Vazquez should have done much better with that. The winger got on the end of the cross into the area, but unmarked he sends his header over the bar.
This is a second string Real Madrid team, that is in no doubt, but they have shown before that they can cope without their best players. They did a similar thing against Leganes.
Casilla has been handed the Real Madrid number one jersey for this match. Navas has come under pressure in recent weeks, with some fans demanding that he dropped from the team.
Real Madrid have looked vulnerable at the back in recent games and they look shaky once again this afternoon. Sporting Gijon will have opportunities to find the net here, that's for sure.
BIG CLEARANCE! Gomez knocked a header across the face of goal, with Carmona ready to pounce inside the six yard box, but Nacho was on hand to make the last gasp clearance.
This looks to be a very attacking selection from Zidane. Real Madrid are playing with three up front, but they also have James and Isco pushing forward from the midfield area.
There's an extremely rare start for Coentrao, with Marcelo rested by Zidane. The Portuguese full back has hardly had a look in for Real Madrid so far this season. This is a big opportunity for him.
Of course, Real Madrid claimed a huge win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League during the week. Zidane underlined his tactical nous with the win against the Bavarians.
Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo have all been left out for Real Madrid, with Vazquez, Asensio and Morata starting up front for the visitors to Gijon for this game this afternoon.
Zidane has made a number of changes to his starting lineup for this one. The Real Madrid boss has an eye on next week's Champions League quarter final second leg against Bayern Munich.
The match is under way! It's Sporting Gijon against Real Madrid in La Liga.
