Barcelona have explained why Xavi wheeled away rubbing the top of his head when celebrating scoring against Paris Saint-Germain.

The midfielder made the unusual gesture after converting a late penalty in La Blaugrana’s eventual 2-2 draw in Paris in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Barca’s official website have explained today in a statement that the 33-year-old’s celebration was in response to a request made by a 10-year-old boy named Miquel, who suffers with Leukemia.

Xavi met with the youngster unannounced recently, presenting him with a signed shirt after seeing him featured in a documentary on World Cancer Day.

Miquel asked the player for two things - to attend a training session at the club and that if he scored in the Last 16 meeting with Milan that he would touch his head in celebration.

Whilst Xavi did not net against the Italians in the previous round, he maintained the deal yesterday against PSG.
