Wolfgang Niersbach believes that, while Spain's big two have more star power, the more competitive nature of the German league makes it an enticing experience for viewers at home and abroad.
"In the Spanish championship, the suspense is reduced to the question: who will be champion – Real Madrid or Barcelona? Here, it is more open," Niersbach told Sky Sports News in Germany.
Over the past decade Stuttgart (2007) and Wolfsburg (2009) have both won the German title in addition to Dortmund, who recently retained their title as part of their league and cup double, and giants Bayern Munich.
Over the same period, only Valencia's triumph in 2004 has broken the hegemony enjoyed by Real, current champions, and Barca.
