Ontinyent's Ruben Garcia collected the ball comfortably during the first half of his side's Spanish third-tier clash against CD Denia and advanced away from the goal with it in his hands, seemingly intent on punting it upfield.
But a sudden rush of blood to the head appeared to make Garcia completely forget the rules: instead of smashing the ball upfield, he carried on running.
The referee seemed so surprised by what was happening that he took a few seconds to gather himself before blowing up for a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Garcia also received a yellow card for the handball - although Denia's players were outraged that he was not sent off.
And their anger was intensified when their own keeper, Ivan Vidal, himself made a late blunder to hand all three points to Ontinyent.
