The two sides have met once before in the Confederations Cup: Germany triumphed 4-3 after extra time back in 2005.

18.50

HEAD-TO-HEAD: Mexico have beaten Germany in just one of 10 meetings. El Tri have drawn five and lost four against Die Mannschaft.

18.45

FUN FACT VIA FIFA: Mexico were forced to come from behind in all three of their group games. El Tri beat both New Zealand and Russia by a 2-1 scoreline, while they twice pegged Cristiano Ronaldo and Co back in the 2-2 draw with Portugal.

Juan Carlos Osorio gave an amusing response to suggestions his experienced side should have the edge over Germany's young stars. The Mexico coach said: "You can be young and have a lot of experience. A 30-year-old person that starts studying cardiology will know a lot less than a 21-year-old graduate."

Germany coach Joachim Low has been delighted with how his young Germany squad have acquitted themselves so far in the tournament. He told reporters: "I'm really happy to be in the semi-final with this side. Our main aim is always to be one of the last four teams in any competition. And you couldn't necessarily expect that from this team. It's nice that the team is bonding, because the players are spending time with each other off the pitch too. They're incredibly happy to be here. Not a single player is seeking to be in the spotlight - instead they all want to succeed as a team."

Joachim Löw
18.30

Mexico's talisman and Bayer Leverkusen hot-shot, Javier Hernandez is relishing the challenge of taking on the 2014 world champions. He told FIFA.com: "Obviously, playing against the team that represents my adopted country will be a very special moment, not just for me, but for the whole team. It’s not every day that you get to play against the world champions – and with a place in a final up for grabs as well. We’re extremely motivated. We’re going to take the game to Germany and we’re not going to change our style of play. Obviously, we want to work on our weaknesses, but our attacking play has enabled us to pick up some good results. Why would we change that?”
