Kean won't give up on Nzonzi

Blackburn manager Steve Kean has not ruled out wantaway midfielder Steven Nzonzi staying at Ewood Park next season.

Nzonzi has not joined the rest of the squad on their training camp in Austria after revealing he wanted to leave the relegated club, but Rovers have yet to receive a bid for a player they have valued at a reported £10million and Kean retains a glimmer of hope the 23-year-old Frenchman may have a change of heart.

"At this stage it is disappointing, but you never know," Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph. "There might be no bids that match our valuation and Steven might then see the type of signings we are making and might end up still being here if he withdraws his request and makes a statement he wants to play for the club.

"If no one met the valuation then I would hope he would respect the fact he has a contract. I would hope he would want to get his head down and work towards playing football.

"He is employed to be a football player, not a football trainer and at this moment in time, he doesn't want to play for the club."

Danny Murphy, Leon Best, Nuno Gomes and Fabio Nunes have all joined Rovers this summer, but several players, striker Junior Hoilett included, are expected to follow Yakubu out of the club.
