Goss claims number one spot

Australia's Matthew Goss has taken top spot in the UCI's World Tour rankings off the back of his victory in the Milan-San Remo race.

The HTC-Highroad rider saw off the challenges of several other favourites to win the race in northern Italy, the first of this season's grand classics.

It was enough to send him to the top of the rankings, ahead of Italian Michele Scarponi and fellow Australian Cadel Evans, who won the Tirreno-Adriatico earlier this month.

Germany's Tony Martin, who led the classification after his victory in the Paris-Nice race, completes the top four.
