ReutersSteven Grotowski and John Garcia-Thompson were beaten for a third time at the Games, and eliminated, when they went down in straight sets 22-20 21-13 to Norwegian pair Tarjei Skarlund and Martin Spinnangr.
But while Grotowski, 30, was disappointed, he insists it is enough for both of them to remember their Olympic experience for the rest of their lives.
“There was definitely room for us to play better,” said Grotowski.
“We had four weeks of good preparation leading up to this. We tried very hard to play well, but we just played average – not our best.
"It's a little disappointing but something we will remember for the rest of our lives. I've never experienced this many people cheering for me and my partner.
“It's unimaginable to compete in an atmosphere like this. It's been an honour, tough at times, but anything worth doing is."
Spain-based Garcia-Thompson believes he and Grotowski were unable to find their rhythm and wanted to share a good performance with his partner.
He said: “We lost the rhythm of the sideout and without that you can't win. I gave him a kiss – it's been hard to get here. We just wanted to play well."
